A Man Walks Into A Bard, 2nd July 2018

Shakespeare’s words are full of warmth and life and cover universal themes in a way people of all ages can relate to. Join us and a whole host of stand-up talent on Monday 2nd June for our first ever stand-up fundraiser event: A MAN WALKS INTO A BARD.

It’s going to be a special evening, celebrating the work of the brilliant Bard and will raise money for the Shakespeare Schools Foundation, a cultural education charity working to bring confidence and aspiration to young people from diverse backgrounds across the UK.

We’ve got some of the finest comedians around performing for us - just take a look at this line-up:

  • James Acaster
  • Ellie Taylor
  • Desiree Burch
  • Colin Hoult as Anna Mann
  • Pierre Novellie
  • Darren Harriott
  • Great British Mysteries?

Seriously, what could be better than spending an evening with these guys, sheltered from the interminable avalanche of 24/7 football? In fact, we might just have some VAR you can get on board with. Yes, with our Very Agreeable Rates, you could grab a seat at this one-off comedy extravaganza for only £15.

In buying a ticket you’ll be doing a great thing. The money this event raises will go towards the work of the Shakespeare Schools Foundation, an organisation which last year worked with 1,006 primary, secondary and special schools across the country, giving them an extraordinary opportunity to explore the stories and language of Shakespeare on professional stages in their local community. Last year, 96% of our audience members told us that the performance had brought the local community together; 93% of teachers said that their teaching had improved as a result of taking part in the project and 93% of students told us that they enjoy working in a team more, having taken part in our Festival. A MAN WALKS INTO A BARD is your opportunity to support the work we do and the young people who benefit so greatly from it.

Our CEO, Ruth Brock, says, “Finding the skills and confidence to make people laugh is a wonderful and empowering thing. Watching a comedy - or any performance - is a deeply unifying experience. Shakespeare Schools Foundation wants children to have confidence and to belong - it's why we exist and why we're thrilled to raise money for our vital work in this way.”

As Ruth says, this promises to be a brilliant evening of live comedy which, with your support, will raise a shed load of cash for a wonderful cause. So come along and have a laugh. We'd love to see you there!
