Why are we doing it?

When young people engage in the expressive arts, they’re more likely to feel that they belong, that they can build connections with their peers, and raise aspirations for their future. All too often these opportunities are squeezed out of the school day and pupils facing structural disadvantage are the ones that lose out.

So how can we find new opportunities to get this practice into the classroom?

Playful Spaces will make the case that it is essential for all schools and educators to prioritise creativity for good. Inspired by Coram Shakespeare Schools Foundation’s 2030 strategy ‘All the World’s Our Stage’, we are starting a movement to ensure that young people have the chance to build the oracy, essential skills and confidence they need to succeed in life.

We will hear from collaborators how creative learning and the expressive arts can become more inclusive, more available and more equitable. The CPD event will explore tools for teachers to support young people to build connections and engagement with learning, and develop their confidence, resilience and wellbeing in the process.
